SDS enables resilient water management through GEOlight® attenuation for airport infrastructure

Overview

Eaton Aerospace’s new purpose-built headquarters and advanced manufacturing facility at Faraday Business Park, Solent Airport Daedalus, represents a major investment in the UK aerospace sector. The 176,000 sq ft development will support future growth, secure skilled employment, and strengthen Daedalus’s position as a nationally significant hub for aerospace and advanced engineering.

SDS was appointed by Winvic Construction Ltd to provide a robust surface water attenuation solution capable of supporting the drainage requirements of this large-scale industrial development while meeting planning and environmental obligations.

What We Did

The facility required an efficient and reliable drainage solution to manage runoff from extensive impermeable surfaces and control discharge rates in line with the approved drainage strategy.

SDS designed and supplied a GEOlight® 400 attenuation system, delivering 875m³ of underground storage capacity. The modular system was selected for its strength, lightweight construction, and suitability for large industrial sites, while enabling efficient installation, within a constrained construction programme, adjacent to an operational aerodrome.

Results

The completed attenuation system provides reliable surface water management, reducing flood risk and ensuring controlled discharge from the site. Its successful integration within the wider development demonstrates the effectiveness of a modular SuDS approach for complex, high-value infrastructure projects.

The solution supports the delivery of Eaton Aerospace’s landmark manufacturing facility and contributes to the long-term resilience and sustainability of the Daedalus Solent Enterprise Zone.

Working with Winvic Construction on the Eaton Fareham project was a great example of the benefits of strong collaboration from the outset. By maintaining close communication throughout the design and installation stages, we were able to ensure the surface water management solution integrated smoothly with the wider construction programme and site constraints.
