As climate change grows ever more volatile, and water scarcity and surface water flooding intensify, smart water management technologies are becoming essential for resilient development. SDS leads the way with intelligent, data-driven solutions that safeguard water resources and reduce flood risk.

Dr Neil Sewell, Director of New Technology Systems at SDS Infrastructure, will present “Smart Water Management Technologies” on Tuesday 21 April at The WATER Show, taking place at The Building Centre, London. A PhD-qualified computer scientist and engineer, Neil has over 20 years’ experience developing advanced sustainability technologies.

Since joining SDS in 2018, Neil has developed integrated smart water systems that combine IoT monitoring, AI-driven control and cloud-based analytics to optimise rainwater reuse and attenuation in real time.

At Plymouth Argyle FC, SDS installed a smart rainwater management system that monitors storage levels and automatically prioritises reuse across stadium facilities, reducing mains water demand while maintaining full flood attenuation capacity during peak rainfall events. At Aqualate Golf Course, intelligent control supports high-volume irrigation demand, balancing reuse performance with storm resilience across a large landscaped estate.

Agricultural schemes at Buttery Farm and Caynton Farm demonstrate how predictive control and remote monitoring can improve water security in off-grid or low-infrastructure settings. Meanwhile, projects at Devon & Cornwall Police Station, Headlands Hotel, 76 Southbank and Forton School show how hospitality and education sites are using smart water technology to gain real-time system visibility, measurable savings and robust sustainability reporting.

Neil’s presentation will share performance data from these live schemes, offering practical insight into scalable, data-led water management solutions for resilient development.
