Bloor Homes, Findern

Overview
The Findern residential development in Derbyshire, delivered by Bloor Homes, comprises approximately 200 homes, including allotments, a community orchard and natural play spaces. Situated on previously agricultural land, the development required a robust, future-proof surface water management solution to support phased construction, mitigate flood risk, and integrate seamlessly with other sustainable drainage (SuDS) features.
SDS was appointed to design, supply, and install a system capable of managing increased runoff from roofs, roads and hardstanding areas, while supporting environmental enhancement and long-term operational reliability.
What We Did
SDS supplied and installed 101 metres of Weholite pipework (61m of 1600mm diameter and 40m of 1500mm diameter), five 2,100mm Weholite manholes, and a 2,800mm Flow Control Chamber (FCC). The modular Weholite system’s lightweight yet durable structure allowed for rapid installation and flexible connection across the site, accommodating landscaping, green corridors and multi-phase construction requirements.
The system safely captures, stores and conveys surface water runoff, controlling discharge rates. SDS worked closely with D.J. Newberry and Stanton Developments to coordinate the installation alongside ongoing construction, overcoming logistical challenges associated with phased works, temporary site access and integration with existing infrastructure.

Results
The SDS Weholite attenuation system provides reliable, long-term management of surface water across the Findern development. By safely controlling runoff, the system reduces flood risk to homes and public areas, while supporting ecological and landscaping enhancements.
The project demonstrates SDS’s ability to deliver technically robust and environmentally responsible drainage solutions for large, multi-phase residential schemes, balancing practical functionality with sustainability and climate resilience.
SDS worked collaboratively with the project team to support the delivery of a robust and compliant surface water management strategy for the development, aligning with Bloor Homes’ commitment to delivering high-quality residential communities.
